Craig Chavez

In 1999, Professor Chavez began training Mixed Martial Arts in Southern California with Team WCG (Williams Combat Grappling). In 2005 he enlisted in the United States Army where he began training in the Army Combative's program.

After serving honorably, he continued training and competing in Judo under Judoka from Southern California and around the world. He has had the privilege to train with former Olympic and team members such as Jimmy Pedro and Justin Flores. He is a 2x National Silver Medalist and former member of Team USA Judo. He was also training and competing in BJJ under Jean Jacques Machado black belts Gary Padilla and Rick Bean.


Professor Chavez holds black belt’s in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and Hapkido. He is a certified black belt with the Jiu-Jitsu Global Federation (JJGF) under GM Rickson Gracie.


Professor Chavez founded the We the People Self-Defense homeschool program as he believes martial arts plays a vital role in physical education, character building, discipline and self-awareness. The WTP program is a certified JJGF Academy.


We The People SDS emphasizes many techniques that consist of bilateral coordinated movements (BCM) in which promotes a wholistic healing process for individuals with TBI and PTSD. He uses these processes for the kids program to promote intelligent thinking, responding, emotional regulation and so much more.

Walk a single path, becoming neither cocky with victory nor broken with defeat, without forgetting caution when all is quiet or becoming frightened when danger threatens.
